Overgrown by Rakel Hjelmeseth/creo ingero

Overgrown by Rakel Hjelmeseth
so here's a really awesome print available at:
ingero.etsy.com

It was drawn and reproduced by Rakel Hjelmeseth, who is apparently also really awesome! For me, design is such a push and pull between minimalism and totally lavish pattern. This print hits right in the middle, in my opinion. The design is intricate, but it's executed so cleanly that it's only overwhelming in it's beauty.
That's all for today!

HGTV? Yep, I am basking in pre-fame.

the HGTV shoot
So, yeah, I am not famous yet, but I am soooo going to be. Above is the producer of HGTV's "That's Clever" jokingly tearing me a new one. The whole thing was pretty fun, and I won't get to see it until next year sometime. I must say, the perk-o-meter went off the charts during the shoot, and I managed to be less sarcastic than usual.
So, the shoot followed me making a scarf (pictured below) which is recently available in my etsy shop. I had to make several of the same motif so we could do "step-outs" like in a cooking show. Crazy! So now I have several of the same scarf in different stages of done-ness. I swear I'm going to finish them.

Hooray for Me.

Untitled

I'm posting this photo in celebration of my 100th item sold on etsy! Yes, I'm in the triple digits now. This particular photo, entitled "Untitled No. 2" is my bestseller, so I thought I'd let it shine on top of the blog today. I'm hoping it keeps up, because I can definitely handle this lifestyle. A big thanks to anyone has bought something from me, ever!
SALE!! ...if you're reading this and were thinking of shopping, I'm offering 25% off of your purchase in my shop until May 27th!! Just type in the code "100" in the notes to seller when you purchase and wait for a revised invoice.

In other news, I've started batiking...I have until the 9th of June to get a bazillion scarves done for the Grand Cities Art Fest in Grand Forks, ND. There's wax on my fingernails right now!! Here's a photo of one of my favorite new color schemes...

Suzanne McClelland Rocks My Socks

img700x316cynthia_20-1
Well, I went to a lovely opening this weekend at the North Dakota Museum of Art, where I found myself surrounded by Keith Haring, David Hockney, Basquiat, Warhol and Suzanne McClelland, who, as this blog title proclaims, rocked my socks. She had three large pieces, in grayish blues with so many lyrical details...the piece above I took from her website (www.suzannemcclelland.net), and it's in keeping with what I saw. This piece has a really great struggle between that industrial gray/institutional structuring and the soft, floating flowers. I like it a lot. And now I'm going to go aspire.

Remember Fashion Plates?

I just went to the best rummage sale ever. Well, maybe not ever, but in terms of vintage toys, yes, ever. I got myself $10 worth of fashion plates. I loved these things when I was a kid, but they're still inspiring me now! The cut-off body parts make really neat-o compostions all on their own. So, today, I'm finding a way to paint them...

pattern by darrah dean gooden

wallpaper

I just spotted this awesome painting at:
dgoods.etsy.com
It's made by Darrah Dean Gooden (www.darrahdean.com).

I love to incorporate pattern into my work (in fact, I can't really help but do it). This painting is an awesome indulgence of decoration...I love envisioning it in a minimal envirionment. Like a gallery.
So, that's what got me going today, and here's what I was working on:
Some Dishcloths
more dishcloths! Then I started four paintings. Then I made more dishcloths, and now I'm working on this evil box of gobstoppers. When will the gob stop??

A New Old Barbie Dress...

lemondressbettersize
I searched my parents basement last night and found this lacy yellow Barbie dress that was just begging to be photographed. I remember it always playing second fiddle to other dresses...it was the eighties, and yellow chiffon justy seemed wrong somehow...The little plastic bow on the bodice was lemon-scented at one point, so it had that going for it...But anywho, here it is now, in all its glory.

Also, I just made up these cards last night in the new garage studio. You can get them in my etsy store, but you knew that already, right?

So, um, I think I'll go work on something now...

Gosh, I Love Suede! and other news...

suede

I am drooling over this awesome purse/bag by:
scabbyrobot.etsy.com
I think I'd be a lot cooler if I had it. If you check it out and buy it, you're taking that away from me. Once you're sporting it, though, you'll be too cool for me to care...
I woke up in North Dakota today...I'm getting ready to set up my studio in a corner of the garage. Of course I had to check my etsy and whatnot first. And then I saw that purse. And now I'm starting to get sleepy again. Oh, what's an unempmployed girl to do?
