minneapolitan

I'm back! I've been really, really slowly unpacking. I'm hoping to set up my studio and office space in some new, super-efficient way...but that does require a lot of planning. Meanwhile, I had a rather large screen-printed business card order to fill...so since my basement studio is currently filled with rubbermaids, I broke out the TV trays and let the cards consume our tiny living room. It was pretty fun.

In other news, the only thing I forgot to pack from Grand Forks was my camera battery, which was quite a drag. Fortunately, my cousin was visiting my parents last weekend and she brought it back here with her, which was nice. Then I went to her house and met her tiny and adorable baby, so everything worked out. And now I can take pictures! Which is what I did today after finishing my orders.
And so, without further blathering, I present to you: the scarf. The scarf is a much neglected topic on my blog, and yet, such a stylish and steadfast companion of mine. I have about 10 scarves left on my little rack after a successful summer of scarf sales, and here's some of them (and no, I couldn't get anyone to model them for me...oh...and yes, they're all available for sale in my etsy shop):

It's almost that time

dreaming
JoJo, Rudy's and Sushi. If you're reading this, Joj, I see the irony in the fact that I have no time to email and yet, I found time to photoshop your head into a photo montage. I'm guess I'm just more of a visual communicator.
Back to Minneapolis on Saturday!

Art and Wine Walk Saturday

So, it's Saturday morning, and I'm getting ready to head over to the Blue Moose restaurant in East Grand Forks for the North Valley Art Council's Art and Wine Walk. People walk around with a map of artist locations, and then they sample wine and other beverages. It sounds lovely. Anywho, I'll be sitting there with my art from 2-5 this afternoon. I should probably be painting and getting ready for my show, for which, by the way, there is now an official postcard:

The last couple days, I've been working pretty hard...I decided to make some collages of the plates lying all over the garage floor (upon my friend Justin's suggestion-thanks!) I haven't really ever made in collage in the professional sense, so any critique would be appreciated...they're going into the show, so it would be good if I knew they blew!

And here's some paintings:

Vintage Doll Dress Oil Painting
OK, and this last one totally doesn't fit in with the rest, but I'm not some sort of thematically charged art machine! It's the view from the garage in my parent's backyard, which I'm leaving soon...

OK, time to load the car up with paintings. Byeee!

A New Fashion Plate Painting!
Here's the first new fashion plate painting for my upcoming show. See? I do paint sometimes....now back to the garage.

The Summer Cold

Yeah, that's right, I have a summer cold. It's just wrong. It's been going on for over a week! And, right in the middle of it, I somehow managed to contract conjunctivitus....otherwise known as PINK EYE! That's what I get for working with all those tiny children. Anywho, I've quite responsibly quarantined myself. I've been working on computer-related tasks...and not paintings....
I did sneak out on Saturday night, though....My brother and I went to go see Jesse's band, The Midnights. Here's a picture of them from a different concert(you just can't take new photos when you have pink eye...what if my camera became infected!?):

you won't regret it. Seriously, they rock.
In other news, here's a couple more vintage barbie photos I pulled out of thin air:
vintage barbie dress
groovy barbie
OK, so that Barbie with the big braid? That braid has been in her hair for 20 years...or whenever the last time I played with her was. That really blew my mind. I left the Barbies and their dresses all over the dining room table after their photo shoot, and then my niece came over. First, she was really confused as to why I was playing with Barbies. We got over that, and then she decided we should play with them. She chose quickly the aforementioned Braidy Barbie, commented "her hair is really messy!" and proceeded to rip out said braid, along with my heart. Oh well.
So then, I designed some new cards, and here they are:

thanks!
That's all for today!

I'm an Adult

reflectivebarbiecopy
Well, it's time for me to re-acclimate myself into the adult world. Yep, art camp is over, and I'm now forced to see myself as the 27 year-old that I am. Yesterday I said to myself "goodbye pipe cleaners, hello....Barbie clothes?" So, I'm easing my way back by photographing the vintage Barbie dresses I've been collecting all summer at rummage sales. I think they're looking quite lovely.

My show at The Third Street Gallery in Grand Forks has been delayed a week (hooray!), so I've decided to catch up on some random projects I've been wanting to work on (like these dresses). Next up: taking a nap in a lawn chair.
